Giant. Ice. Cubes.
Years ago, some of my best friends bought me a mold to make a single giant ice cube. The ice cube measures approx 5″ x 2″ x 2″. My routine during pandemic-days is to take out the giant ice cube, whack it using a wooden stick that came with It to break it up into smaller pieces, pour my homemade cold brew over it, and watch the beautifully clear ice against a black coffee backdrop.
One day my roommate asked me, “is that special ice?” I said no, it’s a fancy ice cube that allows me to think I’m special.
To be honest, there’s a part of me that is attracted to the idea of doing something simple with so much purpose and focused, similar to Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Life is stressful enough, so let’s enjoy the simple moments.
Not the same as my giant mold, but I also have trays to make these giant cubes.
