Stop Saying You’re Busy – Venture Out – Aug 21, 2018

There’s nothing I want more in this world
Than somebody who loves me naked
Someone who never asks for love
But knows how to take it
Are you that somebody
From Ella Mai on her latest single, “Naked”

Essentialism.  A concept gaining popularity, it’s basically about reducing all the non-essential stuff in your life and being intentional about what you do, everyday.  Essentialism is having a moment right now because more and more, we are feeling overwhelmed with too much email, too many priorities, too many responsibilities.  In the next two journals, I’ll present a couple concepts from Greg McKeown that you can use in your life immediately.

STIMULATION

Greg McKeown, author of Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, dissects work & culture and distilled it under the lens of what does science say about being productive. He challenges the new cultural norm of answering the question, “How are you?” with a response of, “I’m busy.” In other words, we shouldn’t be ‘rewarded’ by being overly busy. Instead, do what’s ‘essential,’ and obsess over a few things, not everything.  Challenge yourself to stop saying, “I’m busy.”  Listen to the episode here.
